Review: Castle Forbes Lavender Shave Cream
A good shave cream is fundamental to any good grooming regime. I try to use creams as opposed to foams and gels – just my preference. I discovered Castle Forbes Lavender Shave Cream on a shaving forum and decided to give it a go and post a review. Those of you who read regularly will know that I have hyper-sensitive skin and also get a shave rash.
Castle Forbes have a great selection of shaving products, I decided to try the Lavender for its soothing and healing properties. Here’s how it went…
My first impression of the packaging and the scent are fantastic. The cream is fragrance-free and simply scented using pure lavender essential oil, the packaging is a large round tub which is big enough to double up as a shave dish – great if you are shaving in a hurry.
To get started I lathered the cream with my brush as you would any other cream, only using the tub as a dish. The cream lathers into a cloud of fluffy foam and releases this wonderful aroma. The lather spreads onto the growth really easily and maintains a rich presence on the skin meaning you don’t have to keep dipping in and out of the bowl whilst you’re shaving. Also, as the lather is so rich you could potentially use Castle Forbes Lavender Shave Cream without a shave brush, I didn’t try this but I would imagine if you placed a little bit in the palm of your hands and worked it with a little bit of hot water, you could achieve a suitable consistency to shave with.
I used a cartridge razor to shave with which glides through the growth and the cream with ease. I applied Castle Forbes Lavender Shave Cream and allowed it a couple of minutes to soften the skin and the growth, this paid dividends as my shave was one of maximum comfort. I also noticed that after my shave my neck didn’t feel as raw as it normally would.
Top-tip: if you use the Castle Forbes tub a shave dish ensure you thoroughly drain any excess water out of the tub once you have finished, this will help to keep the cream in good order and prevent deterioration.
