Shave: Don Draper Style
A good shave is every man’s right. Using the right kit is the only way to perform this most invasive act on on your face. This week I decided to throw caution to the wind and try some old Italian classics alongside my regular razor….
I tend to use shaving oil when I shave, 2 very good reasons for this, 1. oils are non-drying, 2. they help the blade to glide. I often use a gel over the top of the oil to reduce irritation and to offer maximum comfort. Well, this week I decided to try an old classic and see if an age old formula still stands its ground in present day. Proraso has featured in barber shops worldwide for past 80 years, a spanning experience which really speaks for itself. A shaving brush isn’t something I had in the cabinet so had to purchase that too. After cleansing/exfoliating etc etc, I followed my usual shaving protocol but this time, replaced gel with Proraso soap, it’s quick and easy to apply and your hands don’t get as messy, bonus point! Two major benefits which instantly caught my attention, the brush feels great on the face and its coverage is incredible. If you haven’t used a brush and soap to shave before you really must try it. The bristles travel deep into the growth catching every last part of your face, making the whole process noticeably more comfortable.
The ingredients
2 ingredients which caught my eye; Lanolin and Eucalyptus.
Lanolin is a controversial element of any skin care product. People often say the moisturising benefits of Lanolin are often just a sensation rather than an improvement . In this instance, Lanolin works particularly well as it is incredibly lubricating and as I follow with my usual moisturiser, I don’t have to get concerned.
Eucalyptus is native to Australia and has endless benefits to the skin including:
Anti-inflammatory
Decongestant
Deodorises
Stimulating
Antibacterial
This list isn’t exhaustive, I’ve simply highlighted the shaving aids which can help to minimise irritation caused by your razor.
