Man’s Encounter with Botox & Fillers
New year, new me; wrinkle free….well again being the office guinea pig, I was dispatched to see just what this male vanity thing is all about, and to try to establish just why it is becoming so important to look so well kept and fresh faced in the work place.
On arrival at The Private Clinic in Cheapside my initial fears were allayed by the professional and discreet reception personnel.
The bright and airy reception area has a calming, almost zen like atmosphere. Dr Quinn took me to one of the consultation rooms to ascertain just what I wished to achieve. At no time did I feel pressurised or intimidated, this was all about me.
After chatting at length and realising that I wasn’t about to look 18 again, we let battle commence. Botox around my eye area and forehead was suggested and some filler in the smile lines between my nose and mouth.
What are Botox and Facial Fillers?
Well firstly Botox, this is one of the many trade names for the neurotoxic protein called botulinum toxin. The protein is used in cosmetic medicine to treat moderate to severe brow furrows/ lines, wrinkles and facial creases. These procedures use a small amount of diluted botulinum toxin which works to relax the contraction of muscles by blocking nerve impulses hence less stress and strain on the skin. Botox will last for approx 3-4 months.
Restylane and Juvederm are facial fillers used to help to reduce the signs of ageing without surgery. These fillers are both brand names of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body, designed for injection under the skin. They help fill hollows in the face which result from ageing, for example lines under the eyes and smile lines. The effects of the treatment fade slowly over time so a top up will be needed approximately every six months.
As this was my first ever Botox treatment Dr Quinn and I decided to take things very slowly, as my trusted Dr friend said ‘we can always add more but once in there it ain’t coming out.’ I had approx ten small injections around eye and forehead area and truly did not feel a thing. Post-treatment it looked as though I’d been bitten by a tiny mosquito. This lasted for approx 30 minutes, then no signs or marks whatsoever, although bruising does happen with some people, hence think twice about going back to the office afterwards. I was told results would be seen in approx 3-4 days.
A couple of days pass by and wow, results or what? I’m incredibly impressed. The creases between my eyebrows have almost gone, and trust me they were deep.
My partner and best pals have all said that the wrinkles and lines have certainly diminished, and though I say it myself, quite significantly.
I’m about to have session number two in a few days, and because of the achieved results-I’m very much looking forward to my next visit.
Dr .Quinn in my opinion has done a sterling job, honesty, reassurance and reality this is what, as guys, we all respect and need.

Visit number two. Dr Quinn advised that there was no need for any further Botox injections as the last treatments had worked effectively.
We opted to pop some facial filler into my laughter lines-the arch between nose and mouth area to smooth out the lines. A local anaesthetic cream was applied to the area to numb it a little, then the filler injected. The filler does just that, it plumps out the area slightly to ease and smooth out the lines.
The process was totally pain free and the results almost instantaneous. A marked improvement, but most important of all for me, very natural looking results. The area was a little red for a few hours afterwards so I would not recommended having this particular treatment during a lunch break.
